The Chair

I am posting the chair that I have been working on since I got back into my studio. This is the fifth state of the chair. I want to balance a break down of the chair while also keeping the chair realized and specfic. I feel very strongly that a painting can only become strong and meaningful if the artist is willing to risk everything and destroy the image. These paintings are my search in the effort to realize that concept.

It's very interesting to compare the 3 postings of the chair, form the original sketch to the finished product. I can see that finding the right balance between deconstruction and realism is a real challenge.Maybe I would go one step further towards deconstruction for the framework of the chair, the vertical lines anywayby making them softer still. Well my eye as you know is totally untutored, so....do tell me to mind my onions....

Thank you for the suggestion and i'll take a look at that part of the painting. I've actually painted a bit more since then and may have changed that part already. i do like the contrast in the hardness of those lines as compared to the breaking seat and the back of the chair though. and painting is just like drinking wine - your opionion is the exact correct one for what you like. there are no wrong opinions.
