The Witch Fire

The Witch (Creek) Fire started at 11 am on October 21, 2007 in east San Diego county. It burned 1040 homes, killed one person, injured 41 people, and destroyed or damaged another 750 buildings. I have been out in the area painting the the valleys and trying to capture what the countryside looks like with such dramatic changes. There is a huge amount of activity as the people in the area are trying to get their lives back to normal. The landscape is very moonlike but life pokes through in very small ways already. there are tiny bits of green showing through the ground in places. I will post some of the paintings when I get back to New York as I don't have a camera here. And I hope to organize my thoughts more about my experiences near Ramona.

Happy holidays to everyone!
