New Studio

So I have recently moved to Brooklyn and moved my studio as well. New studios mean new work. I am currently trying to adjust to the new place and making work that is cathartic. The world has been so crazy as of late and add in a move and a job change (that's what a new studio is). i wanted to make things that are a lot more simple and quiet. I have decided to use this period of flux to focus on painting leaves. We consider fall a transitional time and the leaf represents this beautiful and short time.

I have limited myself to single leaves for a several reasons: 1. as a way of keeping the paintings quiet 2. I find the idea of a single leaf representing an entire tree as very exciting 3. I love the idea of the simplicity of one thing in an single color environment.

There is so much going on in this simple sort of set up. The leaf tells a story of its relationship to the tree and to the world around it. If we just slow down enough to look at the simple things underfoot, our lives can become much more quiet and that's what i was trying to do for myself.
