the empty studio again

As I work more and more in my studio, a series has slowly started to evolve and gain momentum. I initially started the first painting of my first chair as a warm up exercise and as preparation for hiring models. But as I worked on the painting, I felt that there is something interesting in showing paintings without the models. there is the potential for the model and also a sense of loss in that the model. It is this along with the ideas of the existential painters. They (Giacometti, Freud, Kanevsky, Gale etc.) paint in an effort to prove their existence or the sitters' existence and it is the process of painting those sitters that becomes important. Without the sitter, are the paintings less important?

On another note, I'm going around to more and more artists' studios and websites. I hope to start giving profiles on some of the artists soon - if that's interesting to all (the millions) of you.

yes, your reflections are very thought provoking, and there are many parallels in literature, poetry, novel writing which Annabelle could tell you about, but for more from me read your e-mail!
