I have been on the road and haven't had access to the internet so i'm sorry that I haven't updated the blog lately. I was in Basel and then in the Alsatian countryside. It was a bit of a relief to be able to speak in German rather than French and at this point I can understand Swiss German pretty well. I only miss the words that the whole conversation is about. Ehhh what can you do. I was able to go to the Basel Art Museum which has fantastic Holbeins. I believe the painting of his wif and children is one of the most touching portraits i have ever seen. From what I remember, he pretty much abandoned his family to paint in England. One would imagine that he wasn't that interested in his familyy but when you look at how much care went into the painting of his wife, it seems impossible that he didn't love her very very deeply.
ALSACE:

The place where we stayed in Alsace was this wonderful building built by the grandfather of a friend's wife. There are three buildings on the property and the building is decorated with everything from local farms and houses. It is fantastic. The interior shot is where we had dinner which we had cooked over the open fire.
I was unable to paint all that much but here are some more paintings from the Loir et Cher department of France. I will be leaving for America in about a week so there will be some different paintings coming up soon.
