Menhir

This is the name of the stone structures left by the celts in Brittany. The two photos are of a few structures near where I was camping. The celts have been in that region for a few thousand years - the language is closely related to cornish and similar to welsh. You can see standing stones all over the region. these are the two that we visited. i've included my photo so that you could get a sense of the scale of the stones

The painting is of an outcrop of stones on the beach. The dark rectangle on the side is a German bunker from the war. There are bunkers and block houses throughout the area. It's a strange that these things are still here and still used. One set of block houses was turned into farm storage in the the area that we were staying in. One had been destroyed in the group too. The one on the beach was used by teenagers to get drunk in without being seen by their parents.

This is of the view of a port to the east of where we were. It was painted at 6 in the morning and the temperature couldn't have been more that 40 degrees. i was cold to the core - in August no less!
More paintings to come.
