Lemon

This is another painting in a series of more abstract work, exploring the boundaries between space and shape. These days I am drawing a lot of inspiration from abstract painters and their ideas about color, space, technique and complexity. I am looking a lot at Richard Diebenkorn. It's great to rediscover all the artists I studied as a student, with fresh eyes and a new reason to look at them.

What changes in your painting! I really like the lemon. The comparison between the "traditional pear " and the "new look" one is particularly revealing of the movement forward.
I wonder how they compare in terms of time spent working on them ?

Thank you very much for the very kind comments. The new paintings are much harder to do and therefore take a lot more time. I spend my time building up the image and then breaking it down and back and forth until i find a balance between the two. I think that the traditional things are much easier because I only have to build up the image. One knows what the pear or lemon is supposed to look like but there is no map for how to get these newer paintings to a correct and finished state.

for that as for most things it will be a case of "practise makes perfect" !
